Praised by BBC Head of Music as a “brilliant singer-songwriter,” Albert Man has established himself as one of the more interesting songwriters on the London gig circuit. The award-winning, Manchester-born performer writes melodic pop songs which have been described as “sweet piano-led shenanigans that come over like the lovechild of Billy Joel and Adam Levine” by Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net blog.
“Live At St Pancras Old Church” is a new eleven-track album recorded during Albert’s sold-out EP launch of "Nothing Of Nothing Much" on February 3rd 2017. The album is already available for pre-order on iTunes and is scheduled for a 19th of May 2017 release both digitally and on CD. Set to include songs from last years award-winning studio album “Cheap Suit” and the more recent “Nothing Of Nothing Much” the album will also feature the previously unreleased track “Groundhog Day” which is being offered as an instant gratification download with any iTunes pre-order.
It was never the intention to release a live album from the St Pancras Old Church show but upon hearing the recordings back, Albert realised that this album would offer something different from his previously released studio work. The energy and power of this live show captures a raw, dynamic sound and showcases a collection of Albert’s best songs to date enhanced by the amazing natural acoustics of the church. Sam Smith had a similar idea back in 2013, releasing a live version of "I've Told You Now" recorded at St Pancras Old Church, on his deluxe editions of “In the Lonely Hour”.
The album was recorded by Alex Carson (Wooden Arms), mixed by Rhys Downing (Mark Ronson – ‘Uptown Special’) and mastered by Ed Woods (Tony Viscoti, The Who, Manic Street Preachers). Playing with Albert on the night were Ally McDougal on drums, Jim McGrother on Guitar and backing vocals, Matt Findlay on bass and Louize Carroll on backing vocals.
